Oakland has spirit. You don't have to go far to feel the energy of this authentically vibrant community. We met the most amazing people at Creative Mornings, attended the first TEDxOakland, Oakland's Art + Soul Festival, danced in the streets and wandered through galleries on First Fridays, and ate and drank our way through the city. At Oakland's heart is a self-organizing, creative, and loyal community. But don't just take it from us. When we asked what makes Oakland, Oakland, here's some of what we heard:
"Live music, block parties, and an unmatched level of sports pride."
"A space for creativity and thought and energy to grow and build over time without interference."
"Diversity, inclusion, community."
"My community in Oakland's will always reflect openness and spirit that makes Oakland what it is."
"Spirit, and love, and community."

Only have a day? Start out with a stroll downtown to see Street Art and pop into a few shops (don't miss Viscera). Round out the afternoon with a picnic by Lake Merritt, sip on a local brew at Woods Bar & Brewery while listening to a brass band, and dance the night away at the Ruby Room. But don't be fooled, Oakland is far more than it's Downtown/Uptown neighborhoods—so don't stop there!
